Hold a card to the screen
Any bank card or ID card is 85.60 by 53.98 mm. Put it on the dashed outline and drag the scale slider until the edges line up. The value is saved only on this device.
02
Why the screen does not know
A browser does not know how big your screen is. Until you calibrate, the page assumes 96 CSS pixels per inch, which is right on very few devices. A real coin beside the card is a second check.
03
Five coins, five countries
The 500 won and 500 yen coins are both 26.5 mm across. Beside them are a US 25 cent coin, a 2 euro coin and a seven-sided UK 50p, at the sizes their mints publish.
04
Banknotes
Korean notes are all 68 mm high and grow 6 mm in length per step. Every US note is the same size whatever its value.
05
A4 and Letter
Most of the world writes on A4, 210 by 297 mm. North America uses Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches, which is wider and shorter. Neither fits on a phone at true size.
06
Insects
A pavement ant, a seven-spot ladybird, a house fly and a honeybee worker. On a phone the ant is about as long as a capital letter is tall.
07
Smaller than you can see
A red blood cell, the largest silt grain and the smallest known insect, shown 1,000 times larger. The read-out says so: this view is not true size.
08
Eyes
A human eyeball is about 24 mm across, an ostrich eye about 50 mm, and a colossal squid eye about 27 cm, the largest eye measured in any animal.
09
Against your hand
Turn on Your hand and set its length with a ruler. A T. rex tooth with its root was longer than most adult hands.
10
Bigger than the screen
A blue whale grows to about 33.5 m. At true size it is many screens wide. Move Slide along to walk from tail to head and watch the screen count.
11
Everything in a line
All 117 objects in one row, smallest first. Drag sideways or move Object in line; only the objects near the screen are drawn.
12
Tilted, it shrinks
The models are solid, so you can tilt the table. Seen at an angle, lengths along the view direction get shorter. True size only holds when you look straight down.
